Pipe Repairs

Rapid Detection for Period Properties in Edgbaston and Harborne

Period homes in Edgbaston and Harborne often have complex, aging pipework hidden behind thick walls or under original floorboards. A small  weeping leak can go unnoticed for weeks, leading to damp and structural issues. I specialise in non-invasive leak detection, using my experience to find the source of the problem quickly and fixing it with modern, durable materials that protect the integrity of your heritage home.

Modern Shut-off Valve Upgrades in Sutton Coldfield

Your mains stopcock is the most important valve in your house, yet in many Sutton Coldfield (B74) homes, they are seized or difficult to reach. If a pipe bursts, you need to be able to kill the water instantly.
I replace old, stiff stopcocks with modern, easy-to-turn quarter-turn valves or Surestop switches, giving you total peace of mind that you can protect your home in an emergency.

Pipework Replaced

Case Study: Leak Fixed in B15

The Problem: A homeowner in Birmingham, noticed a persistent damp patch on a downstairs wall and a recent spike in their water bill. They suspected a leak but could not find the source.

Our Solution:  We used non-invasive detection to pinpoint the exact location of a pinhole leak in the cold water feed pipe under the floorboards. We quickly isolated the water supply, cut out the damaged section, and replaced it with a permanent section of new copper pipe, securely soldered.

The Result: Leak permanently stopped in under 2 hours. Wall damage was minimal, and the customer received a full report for their insurance claim. We also installed a modern isolator valve to allow the homeowner to turn off the water easier than it was orginally.

Leaking Pipes and Shut-off Valves- FAQ's

  • What if my stopcock is seized or hidden under a heavy kitchen unit?

This is a common issue. If I can’t reach or turn the old valve, I can often install a new, accessible "Surestop" switch or a modern quarter-turn isolation valve elsewhere on the rising main, giving you instant control without the struggle.

  • Can you fix plastic (Push-fit) pipes?

Yes. Many modern extensions in Solihull use Hep2O or Speedfit systems. I carry a full range of plastic and copper fittings to ensure a permanent, high-pressure repair regardless of whether your home is 10 or 100 years old.

  • Will you have to rip up my floorboards?

I use non-invasive leak detection where possible. In Edgbaston period homes, I take extreme care with original floorboards, using professional lifting tools to ensure they can be replaced neatly after the repair is complete.
